As someone who probably comes off as a Facts Man, I appreciate your defense. But then are you just Facts Man-ing Lowrey's article? :)
There is a deep well of online social tendencies from which to draw criticism. What ranks higher on my list than Facts Man is the tendency to rhetorically frame positions in ways that attempt to shield them or their opposites from criticism/analysis or from being taken seriously.
For instance, creating a bin labeled "Facts Man" and arm-chair psychologizing it with generalities in which we can then dismiss any criticism seems like a case in point. Maybe we can bin this type of person as "Bin Man" or "Bin Woman"?
