I suppose it’s possible that I’ve missed Trump’s statements about getting rid of checks and balances. But in practice, from what I have followed, he defers to Congress (e.g. the separation policy which Democrats then shrugged at).

Most people, including myself, don’t take what Trump says very seriously. He’s a BS artist.

(Edit: I should add that I’m not trying to downplay what he says. I find a lot of it horrible and it’s one reason I didn’t vote for him. But I’ve found his actions haven’t been as bad as his rhetoric except in a few cases.)
